Sunless spray tanning is the spray/mist application of Sunless tanning solution to your body. When applied, DHA (the active ingredient in Sunless tanning solution) reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden brown color. Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun.

Usually, appointments last 15-20 minutes and extra time is allotted for every appointment of 30 minutes

In accordance with FDA guidelines, you are welcome to wear as much or as little as you like, however, undergarments are strongly recommended.

Shower, exfoliate, and shave 4 – 6 hours before your spray tan session for longest-lasting results. Be sure skin is clean and dry prior to session—no lotions, oils, makeup, deodorant, or perfume. Wear dark, loose clothing, bathing suit, and loose-fitting shoes or flip flops to salon. Avoid white, tight-fitting clothing. Waxing, facials, manicure, and pedicure should be done prior to spray tan session.

To give the DHA enough time to fully set, it is recommended to wait a minimum of 2-4 hours after a rapid spray tanning session or 8-10 hours after a standard spray tanning for optimal results. Showering sooner may diminish the intensity of the tan. If you tan using an Instant Cosmetic Bronzer, the Instant Cosmetic Color will wash off in the shower, but the color produced by the DHA will remain.

The longevity of a Sunless tan depends on your skin’s natural exfoliation process, and on the skin regimen followed before and after the application. On average, a sunless tan will last 7-10 days. The faster your skin regenerates, the faster the sunless tan will fade. A daily moisturizing regimen is a great way to maintain and extend the life of your sunless tan.

The frequency of Sunless tanning application depends on your skin’s natural exfoliation process and your preference of color intensity.  People with quick natural exfoliation process may want to do a Sunless session every 4 days to keep color fresh, while others may need to apply only once every 7-10 days.

You may resume using a moisturizer after your first shower. Using a moisturizer on a daily basis helps to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. This will contribute to a more even, natural looking sunless tan. Moisturizing on a daily basis also helps “slow down” the skin’s natural exfoliation process and in return extends the life of your sunless tan. Make sure to use OIL FREE moisturizers as oil will shorten the life of your sunless tan.

An effective way to prolong the life of your sunless tan is by using Sunless Tan-Extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer. This helps hydrate your skin and maintains an even, natural looking color longer by providing subtle bronzers.

Although you may feel and look like you have a real tan, a sunless tan is only the temporary appearance of a tan and therefore provides your skin with no real sunburn protection.  It is absolutely necessary you wear a sunscreen when outdoors to protect your skin from burning.

Most swimming pools have chlorine in them which tends to dry the skin. Dry, flaky skin will shed faster and color will fade sooner. If you choose to use a swimming pool just make sure to moisturize your skin afterwards to “slow down” the drying process. We highly recommend using Sunless tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer which will help regain some of the tan that has been lost.

Continue to wear dark, loose clothing for at least 8 hours while tan develops. Wait at least 8 hours before showering, exercise, or any activity that causes excessive perspiration. Results generally last 7-9 days based on skin type, moisturizing habits, and darkness of spray tan.
